Join us for An Evening with John D’earth and Friends in collaboration with the Richmond Jazz and Music Fest. This event will be an unforgettable evening of jazz as the Richmond Jazz and Music Festival (RJMF) presents The Downtown Satellite Jazz Suite, a two-night tribute to some of the jazz icons of Virginia including the legendary John D’earth, honoring this legendary trumpeter, composer, and educator who has shaped Virginia’s jazz scene for nearly 40 years!

Two dynamic sets featuring John D’earth and Virginia’s top jazz talent, including artists who’ve graced stages like the Kennedy Center and performed with global jazz icons.
Angel’s Envy Cocktail Hour with a tasting table, speciality Angel’s Envy cocktails, and curated hors d’oeuvres to kick off the evening.
A Live Documentary Filming, diving into D’earth’s remarkable legacy.

Why John D’earth?
Born in 1950, John D’earth is a post-bop visionary whose work spans collaborations with Miles Davis, Dave Matthews Band, and compositions for the Kronos Quartet. As the for Director of Jazz Performance at UVA, a lifelong educator and the soul of Thursday jazz nights at Miller’s Downtown in Charlottesville for nearly 40 years, he’s mentored generations and ignited Virginia’s jazz community. This event celebrates his enduring impact.
